Each time we hold space for a child’s growth, we’re nurturing the future stewards of our world. The stories, songs, environments and relationships children experience during their early years shape how they see themselves and others, influencing the communities they will one day lead and care for.
As a children’s playwright and songwriter, I feel the weight of this responsibility. I’m reminded of my own mentors—the teachers who nurtured my voice, my creativity, and my belief in myself. They taught me the profound power of intentional support, and now I strive to pass that on to the children I work with. In the stories I write, themes like reverence for the earth, collaboration, belonging, and the courage to share one’s voice show up again and again. These values are part of my own journey, reminders of lessons I’m still deepening, and the children I teach are my fellow travellers in learning and growth.
This personal journey played a large role in the inspiration for the music in "Starseed Lullabies" https://open.spotify.com/album/0B17PHj2UnZI1C5asxwqvd, my first children’s album. Creating it allowed me to reconnect with my inner child, share my gratitude for the many children I’ve worked with over the years and craft something meaningful for both children and parents to enjoy. I wanted to provide music that families could truly share, bridging generations with messages of love, wonder, and connection.
Those of us working with children may not always see the ripple effects of our work, but we can trust that we’re shaping a more compassionate world, one moment at a time. To those who care for and teach our future leaders, thank you for helping nurture a mindful, interconnected generation. Our world is brighter because of this dedication.
